Let’s start with the basic issue. Little cigars are not cigarettes in any shape fashion or form and they are much closer in their core DNA with a cigar than a cigarette. Little cigars don’t draw like a cigarette either, they are not meant to be inhaled into the lungs; you are going to produce a nasty coughing fit if you do this. It’s a taste faux paus.

filtered cigars

A filtered cigar should be smoked like a cigar, with the smoke just drawn into the mouth and over your taste buds. The tobacco used in a filtered cigar is not in any way similar to a cigarette. Tobacco used in cigarettes is not aged or fermented and in most cases flavoring (if at all) is difficult to do. Filtered cigars are made with high quality tobacco that can be aged and fermented, not so with cigarettes.

You will find similarity with the actual filters used on cigarettes and filtered cigars. The paper stock is similar and the filtering function is somewhat similar.

Filtered cigars come in a wide variety of tastes:

  • Vanilla
  • Menthol
  • Grape
  • Peach
  • Cherry
  • Mild
  • Blueberry
  • Rum

Most filtered cigars are machine made; not hand rolled like a fine Cuban or a premier cigar. They are a mass market produced product, with millions of filtered cigars sold each day. They don’t need to be stored in a humidor like a premium cigar either; any shelf will do as long as it is not in direct sunlight.

You can buy filtered cigars with and without tips too. Prices vary somewhat; but most filtered cigars are sold in packs, with costs under ten bucks up to about twenty-five. Popular brands of filtered cigars include: Swisher Sweets, Derringer, OHM, Cheyenne, Bodyshot, Golden Harvest, Djarum and Daughters and Ryan filtered cigars.
