Artists Who Love Gas Station Cigars

Artists Who Love Gas Station Cigars

The music industry and gas station cigars have a long-established relationship with each other. Many times, singers, rappers, and many other kinds of artists in the industry have been spotted purchasing and lighting up convenience store cigars. Research analyses have even revealed that the example set by celebrities and artists in the music industry is one of the reasons why gas stations or convenience stores or corner shop cigars are so popular today.

No doubt, many artists prefer to go for premium-quality tobacco or smoke—they certainly have the money for it. But there are a lot of our favorite musicians and artists that love to pick up a pack or two cigars from the shop whenever they stop in their cars to buy gas or they are at their local convenience store.

In this post, we’ll be sharing some of our personal artists in the industry who love gas station cigars.

1. Jay-Z

Jay-Z is one of the greatest rap musicians America has ever produced, and he is known to be a huge Cuban cigar fanatic. We’ve all watched the music mogul build an empire on the foundation of his hip-hop superstardom and with a cigar in his hand too.

The Roc Nation founder and record executive seemingly have the music world at his feet as he has consistently achieved more and more incredible feats throughout his 3-decade-long musical career.

It’s no secret that Jay-Z loves a good smoke. In 2020, a line of cannabis products called “Monogram” sells products such as hand-rolled joints and cannabis strains. In some interviews, besides the premium brands that he loves, the Grammy Award-winning rapper has confessed to being a fanatic of some gas station cigars like Swisher Sweets and Dutch Masters.

This rap legend certainly has wonderful tastes. According to him, “A cigar is like a gift you give yourself. I smoke at times when I’m relaxing, or celebrating.” So surely, the music icon often kicks back with one or two sticks of his favorite gas station cigars.

2. Rihanna

Another Grammy Award winner on our list, Rihanna is an artist that revels in being herself and enjoys a good party. She often incorporates her passion for cigars into, her photoshoots, video shoots, and her other creative works, and has often been spotted partying while smoking cigars.

Rihanna is a well-known Barbadian singer, actress, fashion designer, and businesswoman who has admitted her love for the finer things in life on numerous occasions.

So while the billion-dollar Fenty founder likes to relax while enjoying some high-end cigar brands like Cohiba Comador, she is also fond of Dutch Masters which is a c-store cigar brand.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty has a long list of achievements attached to her name which are all a testament to her work ethic, determination, and talent. She has built an empire that spans her many passions and has done it all with style, elegance, and a social conscience that serves as an example to everyone. Perhaps more than anybody else, Rihanna has earned the right to relax at the end of each day with a nice cigar.

Rick Ross is an American rapper and record executive and many people know him for his love for good, first-class smoke. What many people might not know is that the 5-time Grammy-nominated artist also loves gas station brand cigars such as Swisher Sweets.

He was quoted recently saying “If I’m not smoking my hemp VIBES, I’m smoking my Swisher Sweets.” In his music videos, Rick Ross is often seen swanking it up with beautiful women and luxury cars as he smoothly puffs on his Swisher Sweets.

4. Snoop Dogg

If anyone could be the face of cannabis in the music industry, it would be Snoop Dogg. The American rapper, songwriter, media personality, actor, and businessman is popular for his catchy, hip hop beats, edgy style, and love of smoking cannabis. There is hardly a time the OG rapper is not spotted with blunt lit in his hand or between his lips.

In 2012, he released an affordable cigar brand called “Executive Branch”, but even before that, Snoop Dogg already had a history with cigars—gas station cigars to be precise.

As a teenager growing up in Southern Cali, the young rapper, following the discovery of his gift of rap, became steeped in cannabis culture and has been a loyal user of convenience store cigars since then. One of his favorite brands is Swisher Sweets, a fact he even confirmed in his song, ‘Breathe It In’, in which Snoop raps, “We like Swisher Sweets, you like Backwoods.”

In any list of top celebrity stoners, Snoop Dogg always tops it. According to him, the only person to ever out-smoke Snoop Dogg is Willie Nelson—that is one person only out of an estimated one billion smokers worldwide that has ever beat Snoop! Now tell me that’s not a cigar legend.

Rap artist, social media powerhouse, political influencer, wife, and mother of two, the superstar that we all know as Cardi B today was once just young Cardi from the Bronx. Growing up in New York City, the rap star had a thing for Swisher Sweets right from time. Talk about a full-circle love story because, in April 2019, Cardi was honored by Swisher Sweets with the “Spark Award”.

Before then, in 2017, the Grammy Award-winning artist was also a partner in the Swisher Sweets Artist Project Initiative and performed as the closing act at Swisher Sweet Pack Nights.

In May 2019 after she received the award, a 2017 video from Cardi B’s social media resurfaced and went viral. In the video, Cardi proudly shows off the exclusive Swisher Sweets Ugg boots she received as a gift from the company. Why wouldn’t Cardi be absolutely head over heels for this c-store brand?

6. Travis Scott

The Grammy-nominated rapper has a more than busy life. With his new music always on schedule for release, brands deals from all angles, his new record label, Cactus Jack Records, and his new line of Cactus Jack apparel and merchandise, plus he’s also father to the beautiful and intelligent 3-year-old Stormi Webster, a child he co-parents with the billion-dollar Kylie Jenner herself.

Scott lives a life that’s hardly ever on pause. Thus, a relaxing Backwoods smoke is the perfect relaxant for this multi-platinum artist to wind down with now and again.

Top 5 Gas Station Cigar Brands You Should Know About.

1. Dutch Masters: Dutch Masters is a brand that knows how to keep up with the times while still respecting the classics. You can buy both their traditional cigars and cigarillos but what is increasingly popular is their fusion blend.

Dutch Fusion Blends and Dutch Masters Cigarillos are available in a wide range of flavors from fruity to earthy or creamy. They are sold at gas stations in packs of 2 or 3 so you have enough for the weekend and then some.

2. Backwoods Smokes: For a taste of homegrown cigars, you can grab a few Backwoods Smokes at your gas station. This American brand sells its small cigars in a pack as they are designed to be enjoyed in less time than a regular cigar.

These are machine-made in Puerto Rico with Caribbean basin Cuban seed as filler and a Connecticut Broadleaf as the wrapper. The flavors range from spicy to sweet so you can take your pick.

3. Black & Mild: For some, seeing Black & Mild cigars might feel like a throwback to the ‘90s when they were at peak popularity but they are still a good gas station cigar today. There are many flavored options but people also like the brand for its wood-tip cigars.

One of the redeeming qualities of Black & Mild is that they use pipe tobacco. In fact, this has been the cornerstone of the brand since it was established by John Middleton Co. in 1968.

4. Arango Sportsman: If you are not interested in the flavored tobacco that many gas station cigars use, you might be pleasantly surprised with Arango Sportsman. These machine-made cigars only have a slight hint of vanilla, just enough to tingle your senses.

The brand uses Honduran and Dominican tobacco for the filler and keeps it all snugly encased in an Ecuadorian wrapper. It’s not exactly your typical classic cigar but compared to the other gas station options, it comes close enough.

5. Prime Time Little Cigars: These are some of the most widely available corner shop cigars and are also one of the most affordable gas station cigar options out there. These small-flavored cigars are best known for their fruity flavors. Plus, with them, you get to tap into the flavored cigar fad without having to take too much money out of your pocket.
