Just a reminder to Cohiba cigar fans around the world. Last year Zenith the world famous watch maker came out with the limited edition El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Cohiba Edition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cohiba Cigars.
These were limited edition Cohiba cigars produced with 50 in rose gold and 500 in steel. The Zenith/Cohiba watch is decorated in glossy chestnut similar to the amber color of the famous cigars. It has a Havana brown dial with vertical lines and exclusive motifs of the Cuban brand. The famous chief Taino is profiled alongside the Zenith and Cohiba logos flaunting clean, sleek lines. It’s high-frequency mechanism is built into an elegant 42 mm diameter rose gold case, fitted with a fluted crown and two round push pieces. On top of this is Sapphire crystal punctuated by facetted, luminescent hands. The sapphire caseback, engraved with the Cohiba’s 50th anniversary logo, reveals an oscillating weight adorned with“Côtes de Genève”.
Even though the United States and Cuba have recently relaxed relations the watches, like these Cuban cigars, cannot be purchased in the United States. As long as we have travel to Cuba open you can still pick them up yourself upon visiting the island.
Aldo Magada says: “At Zenith we are proud and happy to be partnering with Cohiba, which is not only the bestHabanosbrand, but also represents, the same relentless quest for product excellence that we have been pursuing for more than 150 years. The priority for both companies is to enhance the customer experience, thanks to the unique craftsmanship of our artisans. We are convinced that the limited series Zenith is offering will please connoisseurs of both worlds”.
Zenith’s designers played up Cohiba motifs—from the black and white pattern on the Behike bands to the profile of the Taíno aboriginal chief (Cohiba is derived from the Taíno word for tobacco). The rich Havana-brown dial is cutaway at 11 o’clock to reveal the beating El Primero 4061 automatic chronograph movement, which oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour for heightened precision and delivers a minimum power reserve of 50 hours. The back of the 42 mm case is engraved with Cohiba’s 50th anniversary logo. The legendary El Primero was one of the first automatic chronograph movements when it hit the market in 1969, and it’s still going strong almost 50 years later, much like Cohiba.
